Winter Save
Winter Save
David Stocklein crafted the image Winter Save for a Copenhagen advertisement in January 1994, a calving period on a ranch in Mackay Idaho, where temperatures plummeted to -27°F. He watched local ranchers weaving through the fields with flashlights, aiding birthing cows and carrying newborns to the barn before the frigid weather could potentially cost them their lives.
Kevin Donahue, the cowboy perched atop a horse with a calf, had initially come with his own horse, but the ad agency chose to use the mount of an assisting rancher, so Kevin had to switch. To further elevate the atmosphere, David brought in some heavy-duty fans to fling the snow around and make the scene that much more dismal. The campaign was titled, Some Men Never Compromise They Cope.
