Each workshop costs $1500 which includes meals and the $350 nonrefundable security deposit.  The remaining balance of the workshop is due two weeks before the date of your workshop.

Stoecklein Photography offers a series of photo workshops led by Dave Stoecklein.  Some workshops are held at and around Dave’s private ranch, the Bar Horseshoe Ranch, in Mackay, Idaho (pronounced mack-key).  The Bar Horseshoe ranch is nestled against the tallest mountain peak in Idaho, Borah Peak, standing at 12,668 ft and folded into the majestic Big Lost mountain range.  Other workshops are hosted at various ranches around the West.  Dave invites you to accompany him as he continues his exploration and documentation of the American West. He’ll share his knowledge and experience (and even some of his secrets!).

You’ll find yourself right alongside Dave shooting in the thick of the action, marveling at a quiet sunset over the mountains, or tracking down some of the elusive wildlife in a gorgeous and remote landscape. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to experience the western way of life and hang out with Dave as he shoots photos of real working cowboys and cowgirls at nearby ranches and the stunning landscapes and raw nature. Find out what inspires Dave and hear some side-splitting anecdotes about his time on the road.

Dave has spent more than 30 years creating images that capture the spirit of the American West. He has worked closely with ranchers and cowboys from every western state. Through his work, Dave has gained a deep understanding and admiration for cowboys. His quest to keep the spirit of the West alive is heartfelt and uncompromising. He spends every free moment photographing cowboys and all elements of their lives, preserving their rich western heritage and a way of life that is rapidly disappearing.

 

ARRIVAL TO THE WORKSHOP

On the evening of arrival, students enjoy an overview of coming days, a slideshow presented by Dave along with appetizers, dinner and cocktails.  Dave will offer his own critiques of your work after each day’s shoot. You and the other members of the workshop will be able to trade ideas and opinions as you learn about and refine new techniques, get inspired by new subject matter, and enjoy the unique surroundings.

WINTER WORKSHOPS

In the winter, join Dave, his wife Mary and a great group of local working cowboys for spectacular photo-shooting scenarios with horses running through the snow, winter mornings (hopefully some fog and mist), working cowdogs and many more.    In past winter workshops, attendees got shots of winter sleigh rides and experience a true western mountain winter.

PHOTO USAGE

Stoecklein Photography workshops are educational courses intended to enhance photographic skills and gain valuable experience. Knowledge gained at the workshops can be applied to everyday photography and attendees can also fine-tune professional talents. The workshops are not intended to build stock photography portfolios or libraries and images taken at workshops can only be used for personal purposes and gallery prints. Stoecklein Photography does not obtain or keep on file model releases for the workshop attendees and therefore images taken during the workshops cannot be sold as stock photography by the students. All models at the workshops are paid privately by David R. Stoecklein. Attendees are encouraged to share images with friends and family, create personal calendars, notepads, postcards, gallery prints with their images taken at the workshops, as long as those items are not sold to other parties as stock photography.

Students may enter their photos in photo competitions, but not in magazines as editorial images.  David has never sold any type of royalty free stock and has built his carrier on selling rights managed stock photos.  he is doing these workshops to share his forty year of professional knowledge, his intent is not to build stock libraries for his students, only to teach other how to take the photos.  These rules do not change and will not change.  Please respect Dave’s views and you will come away with a wealth of knowledge!

In the past, some attendees have tipped the cowboy and cowgirl models AND STAFF,  and it is a much appreciated gesture.  $20 – $50 is normal.

 

WORKSHOP CANCELLATION POLICY

Due to limited space in the workshops, registered students have the choice of transferring their $350 non-fundable security deposit to another workshop date within the year, as long as the workshop transfer is before the month of the workshop.  Workshop cancellations that are made within the month of the workshop will require the full balance be paid upon cancellation.  However, students will still have the option to transfer to a different, available, workshop within the year.  Registered students who wish to cancel within the week of the workshop will pay the full balance of the workshop plus a 10 percent cancellation fee.  These students also have the option to transfer to a different, available, workshop within the year.
