KETCHUM, IDAHO ~ David R. Stoecklein, owner and founder of Stoecklein Photography, is now offering a series of weekend photography workshops at his ranch in the mountains of southern Idaho. This exceptional photographer is sharing the knowledge he has gained from more than 40 years of documenting the West and commercial advertising work. Workshops will be held in February, May, June, July, and September of 2010.
This is a chance to work right alongside Dave, shooting in the thick of the action at the Bar Horseshoe Ranch, marveling at a quiet sunset over the mountains, or tracking down some elusive wildlife in a gorgeous and remote landscape. It is an exciting opportunity to experience the western way of life and take photos of real working cowboys and cowgirls at nearby ranches and the stunning landscapes and raw nature
surrounding the Big Lost and Smoky Mountains. Members of the workshop will be able to trade ideas and opinions with Dave as they learn about and refine new techniques, get inspired by new subject matter, and enjoy the unique surroundings.
As Dave says, “People have been asking me to do this sort of thing for a long time. I am really looking forward to spending time with a small group of people, sharing all I can about my photography. Canon USA will also be part of these workshops and will provide extra gear for students to try. My ranch has been the backdrop and location for some of my most famous images. And the area around the Big Lost Mountains is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. All the students will come away with great images for their personal portfolios. I am especially excited about the winter workshop in February. Winter is my favorite time of year to take pictures and some of my most famous shots—Winter Save, Warming Up, Winter’s Chill—were taken near the ranch during the coldest months.”
Dave has spent more than 30 years creating images that capture the spirit of the American West. He is one of the accomplished master photographers in Canon’s “Explorers of Light” education and inspiration program and for the past three
years, he has been recognized by the editors of True West magazine as the “Best Living Photographer of the West.” The distinguished award is given each year as part of the magazine’s “Best of the West” issue. Dave’s client list of today includes JanSport, Dos Equis, Platinum Performance, Ariat International, Roche Pharmaceuticals, Canon USA, Sony Pictures, Justin Boots, 20th Century Fox, and United Artists.
